ANNOUNCEMENT
Monday 01 March 2010
The Football Operations department recently made a recommendation to the Club's Executive Committee that we appoint Warren Carlyle as both Senior team and Club Captain for season 2010. That recommendation received unanimous support and was ratified accordingly.
The formal announcement was made to the playing group last Wednesday evening at Gordon Barnard Oval.
Warren joined Old Camberwell in 2009, having played at TAC, VFL, WAFL level, and in country Victoria. Warren started his footy at Montmorency FC in the Diamond Valley League, and he then progressed to the Northern Knights in the elite Under 18s TAC Cup development program. Following stints with Coburg & Port Melbourne in the VFL and Perth in the WAFL, he found himself playing in the country, at Yarrawonga. Fortunately for our club, Warren maintained contact with his former coach at Montmorency, Michael Sigalas, who also coached at Old Camberwell for a number of years as our Under 19s anbd Senior Coach. Siggy worked tirelessly to recruit Warren to the Club, and for those efforts we have a lot to thank the "Big Sig" for. Now employed as a Facility Manager with Jones, Lang Lascelle in the city, Warren has committed to the club by undertaking a strong pre-season, was an active member of the Club's recruiting committee at the end of season 2009, and he has been a tremendous support to the coaching panel in this new season.
Warren displays great leadership qualities, he has an endearing personality and is considered to be a "leader of men". He will also become a member of the Club's match committee, where all members are actively looking forward to his input. On behalf of all involved at Old Camberwell, we wish Warren well with this most important role at the Club. The remainder of the Club's leadership group will be formulated over the coming weeks, particularly as we go through the practise match phase of our pre season program. It is timely to also make mention of the contribution that Charles "Chubbs" Hendrie made to the club, as a player and as a former Captain of our Club. Charles has elected to try his luck at Division 1 level in the Eastern Football League, and we all wish him well with his new pursuit.
