Senior Coach

OBJECTIVES

• The Senior Coach’s role is to provide effective coaching whilst managing the on-field performance of the Club’s senior team and to develop the overall playing list of the Club.
• The role will also provide leadership within the Football Operations Sub-committee and the Club as a whole, assisting in the mentoring of the other coaches, recruitment, coordination of resources and junior development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in leading the Club to achieve its strategic objectives.
• Assist the Football Operations Sub-committee in developing and regularly reviewing a code of conduct for coaching staff and players that fully supports the objectives of the Club on and off the field.
• Senior Player Development – establish as soon as possible a profile of all current players and an agreed recruitment profile to supplement any perceived deficiencies. The development program should include:
    •  Providing regular individual and group feedback
    •  Enhance skill and game sense proficiencies
    •  Oversee the attainment of appropriate strength and fitness levels
    •  Develop the role of each player within the team and the capacity to play in different positions
• Interview all senior players as soon as practicable after the completion of the season to get feedback and discuss plans and objectives for the coming season.
• Liaise with the Director of Football Operations regarding the recruitment, assessment and appointment of Coaches (Reserve and Junior) and Assistant Coaches.
• Participate in the identification and recruitment of players as required.
• Provide recommendations to the Football Sub-committee on the recruitment of appropriate football support staff and fitness/training resources.
• Instruct the senior players under direct care generally and ensure that all senior players carry out sufficient training.
• Assist with the achievement of all objectives defined by the Football Operations Sub-committee.
• Assist with junior development where appropriate.
• Oversee and provide mentoring to all other club coaches as required, developing their coaching skills and effectiveness.
• Provide game day coaching expertise and leadership.
• Coordinate assistant coach(es) and support staff with clear match day roles.
• Attend Club meetings and functions as required.

RELATIONSHIPS

• Is an active and leading participant of the Football Operations Sub-committee.
• Supports the Director of Football Operations, other Club Coaches and match committees.
• Liaises with the Club Executive, Committee of Management and its sub-committees.

ACCOUNTABILITY

• Accountable to the Club Executive.

REQUIRED PRE-REQUISITES

• Current Level 1 AFL coaching accreditation (or obtaining prior to commencement of season).
• Attend courses, information nights and other identified opportunities as part of professional development of a coach.
• Undergo and pass a Working With Children Check.
